Don’t Worry God, I Got This… until I didn’t
Conversations in the dark.
Twisted metal, torched, and flipped upside-down, no longer motoring down the road. Flashing lights surround the rubble. We lean forward in our seats for a closer look, cricking our necks backward as the flashing lights fade. A wreck on the side of the road is a magnetic object, pulling our curious eyes to it. It’s the wreck that captures our attention but only for moment. Someone’s phone beeps, or we see a “Food and Gas Next Exit” sign, and the tragedy disappears from our minds as quickly as it had appeared.
Prologue
We were that wreck on the side of the road.
No—we had not been involved in an actual car crash. It was the kind of tragedy that catches everyone’s attention and makes you sick to your stomach. We heard words we never wanted to hear. Our life crashed, twisted into a scene of heartbreak and disbelief, taking the breath from our lungs and strength from our knees.
Life had been torn from our grasp, flung into a far-off place, out of reach and out of sight. Life skidded to a halt.
“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.” Matthew 10:27
This book shares the conversations I had with God in the dark and what I learned about who God is, surviving my walk through the valley of the shadow of death and a desert that seemed to have no end. I share the doubts most don’t want to admit and the questions you ask God only when you are walking in a darkness you never imagined possible. “Why did you let this happen?” “What did I do wrong?” “Are you really good all the time?”
I hope that sharing the journey I never thought God would allow and the lessons I learned along the way will help others survive their own overwhelming journey and honestly proclaim that God is good and worthy of praise, even when life is nothing like you imagined it was going to be like.
